Just a minute from Saint Mark's Square, 5 from Rialto Bridge, and also 5 minutes from the vaporetto, Antico Casin inn is in an absolutely privileged position compared to other hotels and rooms for rent in Venice: in the historic heart of the city yet in a quiet area, the ancient Corte Contarina, away from the tourist bustle. It is a true pleasure to go down and take a stroll around the maze of narrow streets and small squares and to quickly and conveniently get to the most famous Venetian landmarks. On your way you will find all types of elegant and brand name fashion boutiques waiting for you (Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Cavalli, Gucci etc.), as well as artisan shops (Murano glass, Burano embroideries, fabrics and brocade, etc.) and picturesque spots, and soon you will be able to appreciate the marvelous spectacle offered by Saint Mark's Square. Surrounding this square which is one of the most beautiful of Venice and the world, you will find Saint Mark's Basilica with its sparkling mosaics and Byzantine cupolas, the long porticos of the Procuratie with its historic cafés (Florian and Quadri), and Museo Correr, housing precious objects of Venetian culture, as well as the important Quadreria. A short walk will get you to Rialto, the commercial heart of Venice since olden times, a very picturesque and bustling spot, with the famous Bridge lined with shops, especially goldsmith ones, and with the very colorful fruit and vegetable Market and the very noisy Pescheria (fish market). The conversations exchanged between the fish mongers and the clients are full of the mellifluous dialect that one can appreciate in the plays of Goldoni and that Venetians speak still to this day. With a stop of vaporetto no. 1 (the Vallaresso landing is a 5-minute walk from Antico Casin) you can get to the very beautiful Madonna della Salute Church, an original sanctuary built in the 17th century in splendid Baroque style. From here you may continue on foot along the narrow streets of the delightful Dorsoduro district (or with the vaporetto that goes through the Grand Canal) to arrive at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the most important collection of American modern art in Italy, and the Gallerie dell'Accademia, which houses masterpieces of Venetian art from medieval times to the 19th century. For evening entertainment, the surrounding area of Antico Casin offers many choices: you can start with a spritz, the typical Venetian aperitif at one of the many bacari (characteristic Venetian inns), then continue with dinner at an informal or refined restaurant, or better still go to the Opera or take in a concert of classical music at the prestigious La Fenice Theater (a 4-minute walk from the inn) or else attend a showing of a Goldoni play at the Goldoni Theater, less than a 10-minute walk from Antico Casin.
